The World Health Organisation has placed bacon, sausages and other processed meats in the same category as arsenic, asbestos and cigarettes as carcinogenics that can cause cancer. The World Cancer Research Fund said: “There is strong evidence that eating a lot of these foods [red and processed meat] increases your risk of bowel cancer.”
The decision follows a meeting and review of available evidence by scientists from ten nations including the UK.
According to The Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine, Cancer Researchers found that “People who avoided meat were much less likely to develop the disease. Large studies in England and Germany showed that vegetarians were about 40 percent less likely to develop cancer compared to meat eaters.” and “Harvard studies showed that daily meat eaters have approximately three times the colon cancer risk, compared to those who rarely eat meat.”
